At the University of Washington, graduate students are the driving force behind innovative research, transformative teaching, and solutions that shape our communities and the world.
Sustaining momentum in graduate research
Changes in federal and public funding cycles have created challenges for many students who depend on research support to complete their degrees and contribute to UW’s mission. Nearly half of our doctoral students are navigating funding uncertainties that could delay progress or extend time to degree.
Graduate students keep UW’s research engine moving: they are leaders, mentors to undergraduate students and innovators. Their work:
- advances cancer therapies and resilient health solutions
- expands clean energy and sustainability research
- develops accessible technologies and educational tools
- strengthens public health and community outcomes
Their contributions are essential to UW’s mission, to Washington State’s robust research economy, and to global progress.
What the Graduate Students Research Resilience Fund does
The Graduate Student Research Resilience Fund builds stability into graduate education by providing flexible support that helps students sustain progress during funding transitions. UW has already invested initial bridge funding, and this effort will:
- keep graduate students actively engaged in research and teaching
- support continuity in labs and classrooms
- preserve momentum on projects that benefit communities and industries
- enable students to graduate on time and move into impactful careers
Every gift to this fund strengthens the infrastructure that allows graduate students to continue their work without interruption.
