Mike McCarthy, a doctoral student in Education and U.S. Army veteran, applied to the Pat Tillman Scholarship three times because Tillman’s life of service and passion resonated with him. McCarthy has come to embrace a model of leadership that focuses on compassionate service and collaboration. He advises others to thoroughly research the organization(s) to which they are applying for fellowships and scholarships in order to find funding that aligns with their own values. Applications should demonstrate how your own story and goals aligns with those values.
