After You Get In: Preparing for Your Program

Next Steps

Accept Your Offer of Enrollment

The first thing you need to do is to let us know you’re coming! This will include logging into MyGrad to register your intention to enroll. Please refer to the letter of acceptance from your department for more detail on how to officially accept your offer.

Pay Your Deposit

When you accept your offer, you will be asked to pay a deposit toward tuition. This will confirm your spot in your program and allow you to start setting up access to UW systems.

Gain Access to UW Resources

Once your deposit is paid, you’ll want to set up a UW NetID. The NetID will act as your central sign-on throughout your time at UW and will allow you to access resources like MyUW, which is the student portal to registration, UW email, and employee information (taxes, earnings), among other things.

Set Up Your Preferred Name

Log in to Identity.UW to set up your profile with your preferred name, pronouns, and to set up your UW Directory preferences.

Contact Your Department

Make sure you are staying in contact with your home department. They will have resources to help guide you through this process and most will have staff to help you navigate it all.

International Students

Students enrolling at the UW from foreign countries have special requirements, including making sure that their visas are in order. Depending on which campus your program is based, you’ll need to contact the appropriate International Student Services (ISS) office:

U501: Graduate School Online Orientation

While many departments will have their own orientations, the Graduate School has also created U501, a self-guided, online resource designed for all graduate and professional students at all three campuses. U501 is intended to help prepare you for your arrival to and start at the University of Washington.
