Graduate Registration Waiver Fee

Students are required to maintain registration through the end of the quarter in which the degree is to be conferred. However, certain eligible students may pay the Graduate Registration Waiver Fee, and graduate the following quarter without being required to register.

Example: you are a Master’s student who completed all degree requirements in Spring 2022. However, you forgot to submit your Master’s request by the Spring deadline. You are eligible to pay the Graduate Registration Waiver Fee and graduate Summer 2022 without registering.

Note: The Graduate Registration Waiver Fee may have an effect on the grace period for student loans becoming due; students should check with their lenders for registration requirements before utilizing this option in lieu of registration

Eligibility

  • Master’s students who did not submit a master’s degree request prior to the request deadline for the quarter in which all degree requirements were completed
  • Students who completed all degree requirements but needed additional time to format their thesis or dissertation (project papers are not included)

International Note: Because the degree conferral date is moved to the next quarter when using the Graduate Registration Waiver Fee, international F-1 & J-1 students who are planning to remain in the U.S. after completing their degree requirements should notify ISS of their new expected degree conferral date and that they are using the Graduate Registration Waiver Fee.

ISS may need to update I-20 or DS-2019 documents to reflect the completion of your degree requirements.
Examples: F-1 and J-1 students who are remaining in the U.S. beyond the 60 days grace period for reasons such as OPT/AT; change of visa status; transfer to another U.S. school; or change of degree level should notify ISS.
