Candidate Certification

A candidate certification gives formal recognition to a successful completion of a very significant step towards a doctoral degree. Students who have passed a General Examination and have completed all requirements for a doctoral degree, except a Final Examination and Graduate School acceptance of a dissertation, are awarded candidacy.

GEMS begins processing candidacies after the grading deadline each quarter. Students can expect to see the candidate certification with the quarter and year of conferral post to their official MyUW transcript about four to six weeks after the end of the quarter.
