Introducing Willa M. Kurland, GO-MAP’s newest staff member!

Willa stands on UW campus in front of a stone buildingWe are thrilled to announce a new member of our staff — Willa M. Kurland! Willa started in mid-April as GO-MAP’s Graduate Success & Awards Officer. She will be helping with our fellowships and awards process and taking the lead on managing the Research Exchange.

Willa is filling a NEW, fourth staff position. As we prepare to launch our 50th anniversary celebration this fall and increase our programming and fundraising efforts in the following years, we couldn’t be more excited to have Willa here to support and help drive our efforts forward.

Here are a few words from Willa:

“Through personal experiences as a Gates Millennium Scholar and graduate student of color, I know firsthand the importance of programs such as GO-MAP. Prior to joining GO-MAP, I was part of the TRiO Educational Opportunity Center team at South Seattle College.

I am passionate about access, equity, and community engagement in education, and I’m so excited to be part of a team that advocates for and creates opportunities to empower graduate students of color. I look forward to working closely with the amazing GO-MAP fellows, and helping establish opportunities for mentorship, scientific collaboration, and career development through the Research Exchange program.

I am a proud University of California, Davis alum and earned my master’s degree in Student Development Administration at Seattle University. Since moving to Seattle I have enjoyed exploring the city and nearby PNW nature. In my free time, you might find me outdoors, traveling, taking salsa or bachata classes, or catching up with friends at my favorite local eateries!”
