Why did you decide to attend the UW?

The University of Washington is a hub for amazing biomedical researchers who conduct world-class research, and it’s in a beautiful location. What else could a budding scientist and lover of the outdoors ask for?

Where do you hope your graduate education will take you?

I want to become a scientist who has the skills to conduct research that could lead to advances in human health and disease treatment. On my way there, I want to help inspire other young women to get involved in science.

GO-MAP’s* motto is “Graduate Excellence through Diversity.” What does this mean to you?

Different perspectives are the key to solving some of our toughest problems. By coming together and including people from all backgrounds, we are much stronger and insightful.

Who has been your inspiration or role model?

All of the women I worked with at the University of Oregon are my role models. They have shown me that women can run labs and conduct cutting edge research all while remaining humble and willing to learn from their mistakes.

Please provide one tip you’d like to share with UW undergrads or prospective graduate students.

The more experience you have before deciding to apply to graduate school, the easier the application process and choosing a program will be. If you take time off to work before applying to a graduate program, you will understand yourself, the field, and some of the challenges you might encounter in graduate school better. There’s no rush, graduate school will always be there!
