Why did you decide to attend the UW?

I decided to attend the University of Washington because of the diversity of research going on in the program and the many opportunities for collaboration at the university.

Where do you hope your graduate education will take you?

I hope my graduate degree will prepare me to for a career for research within academia.

GO-MAP’s* motto is “Graduate Excellence through Diversity.” What does this mean to you?

GO-MAP’s motto to me means that success both in and after a graduate education comes from many people from many backgrounds coming together to make society better for all.

Who has been your inspiration or role model?

I have had two inspirations to me. One has been my mother, who has always pushed me to pursue excellence in academia. My other role model has been my PI and mentor during my undergraduate career, who has helped shaped me as a scientist.

Please provide one tip you’d like to share with UW undergrads or prospective graduate students.

The major factor in picking a graduate school is to see if the school or program has a number of faculty members who do research that you are interested in.
