Brisa Davis

Grad program: Applied Mathematics
Hometown: Spokane, WA
Undergrad institution: Whitworth University
Undergrad major: Mathematics
Why did you decide to attend the UW?
I live in Seattle, and UW has one of the best Applied Math departments in the country.
Where do you hope your graduate education will take you?
I would like to teach at an undergraduate level.
GO-MAP’s* motto is “Graduate Excellence through Diversity.” What does this mean to you?
It means that we can all learn from each other, and draw from the fact that different fields and backgrounds grant us different perspectives which can be valuable in seeing new approaches to our fields of study.
Who has been your inspiration or role model?
I am really inspired by my parents. They both have instilled in me a sense of self worth and hard work, which they have not only taught me through their words but also modeled through their actions.
Please provide one tip you’d like to share with UW undergrads or prospective graduate students.
Don’t go to graduate school because you are avoiding the “real world.” Graduate school is harder, and the real world will just wait and get you later anyways.
