mlk-day-2013A Day of Service, A Day of Community

Monday, Jan. 16, 2017

The Graduate Opportunities and Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP) and the Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS) invite you to observe and celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Graduate students, alumni, faculty and staff are welcome to join us in a community service project organized in partnership with United Way of King County (UWKC).

Sign up today to join GO-MAP and GPSS at one of the three service sites listed below. Please note that space is limited.

1) Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands

Help build a food forest and restore the wetlands at RBURW, a community education center that supports natural wetlands and organic food production.

2) Dale Turner Child Development Center

The Dale Turner Family YMCA Child Development Center provides developmentally appropriate curriculum designed to support the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth of children. Help deep clean toys, equipment, and kitchen supplies.  Light painting and other support is also needed.

3) The Center for Ethical Leadership

The Center for Ethical Leadership is partnering to test Circle Process. Circle Process encourages participants to develop relationships and discover individual gifts to be used to address community issues and solutions. Participants will have the opportunity to listen to the ideas and hopes of others, hear the impact of poverty and inequality in the community, and reflect on next steps for individuals within their communities.
