Grad program: Electrical Engineering
Hometown: Laurel, MD
Undergrad institution: West Virginia University
Undergrad major: Biometric Systems
Why did you decide to attend the UW?
The lab I work with is a signal processing lab with many projects focused around music. My emphasis in undergrad was signal processing and I love, love music. Also, financial support from GO-MAP and ARCS Foundation helped me move across the country, confident in my transition to being financially independent and so far from home.
Where do you hope your graduate education will take you?
GO-MAP’s motto is “Graduate Excellence through Diversity.” What does this mean to you?
Innovative science requires a diverse mindset, with input from people with various backgrounds.
Who has been your inspiration or role model?
My family, especially my Mama, who have believed in my ability before I was even aware of it.
Please provide one tip you’d like to share with UW undergrads or prospective graduate students.
Network! Everyone is a potential connection and friend. As you progress in your career, it is easier to see it is more about who you know than where you’re from or what you degree is in.
